Venue of I.O.F.O.S. Triennial Meeting 2026

The IOFOS 2026 triennial meeting will be hosted in the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, instantly recognizable by its traditional garden covering an area of 7.5 hectares in the center of Lisbon.

The complex of buildings that houses the Foundation’s headquarters, the Gulbenkian Museum and the Art Library is set in this beautiful garden. At one end of this garden is CAM’s building.

This CAM’s building has been redesigned by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, who collaborated with landscape architect Vladimir Djurovic perfectly integrate architecture and nature.

Designed by a trio of Portuguese architects – Ruy d’Athouguia, Alberto Pessoa and Pedro Cid – the Foundation’s Head Office is part of a modernist complex inaugurated in 1969, composed of horizontal buildings, with sober materials – where concrete and glass predominate – with roofs designed as landscaped platforms that blend into the garden.

A landmark in Portuguese museum architecture, the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum building pays tribute to the memory of Calouste Gulbenkian, taking the fusion between work of art, architecture and landscape to the limit. Built around two interior gardens, it allows a constant dialogue between Nature and Art.

The foundation is dedicated to supporting access to art and culture, scientific endeavour, sustainable communities, and innovative projects through grants and scholarships not just in Portugal but the world over, including Portuguese-speaking African countries.

The conference sessions will take place in the beautiful Auditorium. Exhibitors and refreshments will be easily accessible in the bright and large glass Foyer next to the entrance. During the conference, coffee stations and conversation spaces are provided throughout the venue.

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is a large complex located between São Sebastião and Praça de Espanha. You can access their grounds from four different streets: Avenida de Berna, Rua Nicolau Bettencourt, Rua Marquês de Fronteira, and Rua Marquês Sá da Bandeira.
