Travel Information
Welcome to Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon is the capital and largest city of Portugal, located in the central region of the country, next to Tagus River. With a history dating back millennia, the city was inhabited by several civilizations, including the Phoenicians, Romans, Visigoths and Muslims, before it was reconquered by Christians in the 12th century. Lisbon has been an important center for trade and discovery, especially during the 15th and 16th centuries, which was the starting point for Portuguese expeditions, being one of the oldest cities in the world.
Nowadays, Lisbon is a modern, cosmopolitan city, and it is known for its unique architecture, such as the remarkable neighborhoods of Alfama and Baixa. Nonetheless, it is widely recognized for its cultural monuments and attractions, such as: the Jerónimos Monastery, the Belém Tower, the National Museum of Ancient Art, and of course, the traditional music genre called ‘Fado’.
